Kastamonu University is hosting the Orienteering Türkiye Championship, organized by the University Sports Federation (ÜNİLİG), adding another event to its portfolio of sports organizations.
For the organization to be held on May 6-7, 2026, 29 universities from different provinces of Türkiye and a total of 199 athletes gathered in Kastamonu.
Before the official start of the championship, a technical meeting to determine the organization's roadmap was held on May 5, 2026, at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Ay Yıldız Sports and Life Center. In the meeting attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Prof. Dr. Bilgehan Baydil, the Head of the Health, Culture, and Sports Department, Mehmet Sena Aygül, representatives from the Turkish University Sports Federation, and officials from the Orienteering Federation, the competition referees, technical committee officials, and team leaders were also present.
The meeting, where comprehensive information about the competition rules and course details was provided to the participants, concluded with a draw after answering the questions the athletes were curious about.
In the competitions starting tomorrow, athletes will compete on meticulously predetermined courses across the unique natural landscape of our university campus and Kastamonu. The races to be held on May 6-7 will test the athletes not only on their physical strength but also on their ability to find the most accurate route and develop strategies at the highest level.
