Hosted by Kastamonu University, the 1st International Neuro-Cell Molecular Research Congress, held for the first time this year, began on August 26, 2026, with both in-person and online participation. The official opening ceremony of the congress, which will continue until August 29, 2026, was held on August 27, 2026, at our university's Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Cultural Center.

A total of 85 scientists are participating in the congress, which brings together scientists from different cities in Türkiye, as well as Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates. In the scientific program, there are 8 speakers, as well as 53 oral and 2 poster presentations.

Speaking at the opening program, which began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Congress President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yener Yazğan stated that the scientific journey of the Neuro-Cell Molecular Research Congress began with the establishment of the Neuro-Cell Molecular Research journal in 2024.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazğan stated that molecular mechanisms and the physiological, biochemical, and cellular processes of diseases are studied in a wide range of fields, from basic sciences to clinical research, and that they aim to support scientific studies across a wide spectrum, from biophysics to neuroscience, pharmacology to cancer, and systems biology.

Stating that they do not limit their scientific vision to a single journal,  Assoc.Prof.Dr. Yazğan expressed that they aim to create a scientific structure recognized on an international scale. Expressing his satisfaction with holding the first congress, which carries the name and mission of the journal, in Kastamonu,  Assoc.Prof.Dr. Yazğan stated that bringing together researchers working in different scientific fields on the same platform would contribute to new scientific collaborations.

Emphasizing that neuroscience has an important place in understanding human health and diseases, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazğan stated that studies conducted at the cellular and molecular level contribute to scientific developments in this field.   Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazğan thanked the University administration, the organizing committee, the co-chair of the congress, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan Yıldız, the academics involved in the scientific and organizational processes, and all the participants for their support in realizing the congress. 

Dean Avcı: "The sustainability of scientific activities is of great importance"

Speaking after Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yener Yazğan, the Dean of our University's Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Avcı, stated that the sustainability of such scientific activities is of great importance.

Thanking our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal for his support in organizing the congress, Prof. Dr. Avcı, as a clinical cardiologist, drew attention to the wide range of scientific fields covered by the congress. Stating that neuroscience is a comprehensive field that concerns many branches of science, Prof. Dr. Avcı said that the necessary value should be given to this field and that neuroscience should be recognized more in society. Stating that scientists have important duties in this regard, Avcı wished that the congress would contribute to new scientific collaborations. 

On the first day of the congress, neuroscience and molecular approaches were discussed

On the first day of the congress, held on August 26, 2026, online scientific sessions were included in the program. The Founding Rector of Üsküdar University and a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, delivered an invited lecture titled "What Does Molecular Neuropsychiatry Promise?"

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Tarhan, who also provided information about the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative, stated that the rapid developments in neuroscience should be more reflected in psychiatry education and clinical practices.

In the other online sessions held on the first day, topics such as clinical diagnoses, neuroprotection, neuropharmacology, neuro-oncology, genetics, neurodevelopment, and neuroinflammation were discussed.

Scientific sessions continued on the second day of the congress

In the ongoing program of the congress, oral and poster presentations will be held in the fields of neuronal development, neuropsychiatry, structural and molecular neuroscience, and autonomic neuroscience.

On the last day of the congress, which concludes on August 29, 2026, participants will hold scientific presentations in the fields of receptors, surgical technologies, molecular genetics, and pathology.
