Kastamonu University has shown a remarkable rise in the world rankings published by the international higher education ranking organization, University Ranking by Academic Performance, over the past five years. Our university ranked 2,489th in the 2021-2022 period and, by the 2025-2026 period, rose to 2,089th place, achieving a 400-level advancement in the world ranking.
In the URAP World Ranking, which evaluates approximately 3,000 higher education institutions, the top 2,500 universities are ranked based on academic indicators such as the number of articles, citation performance, scientific productivity, research quality, and international collaborations.
According to URAP data, our University's total score increased from 133.70 to 193.24 over a five-year period. Thus, our university achieved a 44.5% improvement, increasing its total score by 59.54 points during the same period. In the 2025-2026 evaluation, our university ranked 58th among the 125 universities from Türkiye that made it to the list. Additionally, our University ranked 12th among the 60 State Universities established after 2000 that were included in the ranking.
In indicators reflecting research impact and scientific quality, increases were also recorded. In the fields of citation impact (CIT), citation score (Citation), total number of documents, and total article impact (AIT), an increase was observed. In this context, there was a 52.8% increase in the citation score and a 54.2% increase in total citation impact.
In his evaluation of the matter, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that the mentioned rise reflects the importance given to scientific production, quality publications, and research culture.
Our Rector stated, "Our rise of 400 places in the world ranking over the last five years shows that our university's research-oriented development approach has found international recognition." The 44.5% increase in our total score is a result of the dedicated work and scientific productivity of our academics. Especially the rise in indicators reflecting citation impact and research quality shows that our understanding of qualified publishing is progressing steadily. "
Our Rector also thanked the President of the Higher Education Council, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the YÖK members for their contributions to the development of quality standards in higher education and the internationalization process.
