General Information

History
Kastamonu Faculty of Forestry was founded in 11th July, 1992 within Gazi University. After the faculty’s foundation, Department of Forest Engineering was launched in 1998 – 1999 academic year and 30 students enrolled in the program. Our faculty was separated from Gazi University and connected to Kastamonu University with a regulation dated 17th March, 2006.

Aim
Forestry Faculty of Kastamonu University aims at educating the man power needed for the preservation, development and making good use of the forestry areas our country possesses in parallel with the economic and social developments. Main objective of our faculty is to enhance the quality of the education required for training the individuals who will take active part in preserving and improving the rich biodiversity that our country possesses. Although a newly established faculty, it pursues education activities, scientific studies and social activities. The projects submitted to other institutions by our academic staff have been accepted and put into use. These projects are expected to increase in number in the years to come. Kastamonu, 65% of which is covered with forestry areas rich in biodiversity, serves as a natural laboratory for the students and academic staff to pursue their scientific studies. Kastamonu and its environs, with their natural beauties and historical heritage, provide the students with good opportunities to have a better knowledge of cultural values because of its having qualities of a natural park of history and culture.

Academic Staff
The faculty employs 18 academic staff; 2 Professors, 1 Assoc. Prof., 7 Assist. Prof., 1 Instructor Ph.D., 2 Instructors and 7 research assistants. 4 Research assistants pursue their Ph.D. studies in Black Sea Technical University.

Duration of Education
The students are placed to the faulty with their quantitative scores in the university entrance exam. Duration of education is four years and the graduates are awarded with the title of “Forest Engineer”.

Number of Students
There are 160 graduate students enrolled in the department of Forest Engineering. Our graduates, provided they acquire a foreign language, will have the knowledge required to work as a forest engineer abroad. It was in the spring term of 2001 – 2002 academic year that the first students got their degrees as the first graduates of the faculty.

Internship
The students are obliged to complete to two internship periods, both of which last for 20 days, at the end of 2nd and 3rd year according to a program prepared by the department.

Masters Opportunities
A masters program was opened in the department of Forest Engineering within the Institute of Science of Gazi University in 09th July, 1999. In the spring term of 1999-2000 academic year, 8 masters students were enrolled for the program. In the fall term of 2006-2007 academic year 36 students were awarded the degree of Master of Science and the title of “Orman Yüksek Mühendisi”. There are 13 students in the program currently. However, no new students for the masters program are accepted till the establishment of Institute of Science of Kastamonu University has been fully completed.

Facilities
In our faculty, there exists a strong and productive interaction between the students and the academic staff, and social activities are carried out with close cooperation with both parties. In addition, laboratories and library of the faculty are open to the students use any time. The students take advantage of the sports facilities offered by the university.

The faculty aims primarily at training students, who preserve, develop and process natural resources without disrupting the environment; who are devoted to the country and loyal to the Principles of Atatürk. To achieve these aims, the students and academic staff of our faculty pursue their studies with the sense of being a member of Kastamonu University.
